‘The Zoo of Doo’

Wombat, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
The doo I do is square! It’s true!
When I do doo, I poop a cube!
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Bird, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
The doo I do can drop on you!
I fly up high to do the doo!
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Sloth, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
Just once a week I need the loo!
It’s called a poo dance when I do.
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Hippo, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
The doo I do goes bang and boom –
An underwater rocket poo!
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Panda, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
I eat so much lovely bamboo
My doo can weigh as much as you!
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Elephant, do you do doo?
I do do doo!
And let me tell you something new;
My doo can have another use –
Turned into paper! Sniff it… phew!
Do you do doo like I do doo?

Carla Jones is a literature student living in Bedfordshire, UK. “I never imagined I would write a poem about poo! But ‘The Zoo of Doo’ came about as a response to write poems which ‘incorporated facts’ on Rachel Piercey’s children’s poetry course, ‘To Sea in a Sieve’. A wonderful introduction to the joy of writing for young audiences we explored a spectrum of styles and subjects, from fun and nonsense through to difficult themes. Informative, lively and jolly good fun, it was wonderful to spend time with people as passionate about children’s literature as myself.”
