“I wrote (or rather found) this poem during Carrie Etter’s Campus course on Prose Poetry. The assignment was to inhabit a colour. As I walked through the babies’ and children’s clothing department of my local Tesco, I was reminded of the gendered colour-coding of the clothes. I then found myself copying the slogans on the fronts of the clothes, and wondering how the inhabitants of these blue and pink clothes might sound if the slogans spoke for them. The ‘encounter’ of the title is that of the poet with the imagined exchange.”
