Fragility of the Gods
A Mythopoetic course exploring Archetypal Gods as inspiration for your own poems!
Across five immersive sessions, participants will explore a series of mythological deities through the lens of mythology, astrology, and character study. Each session will blend discussion, poetry, creative writing, and structured critique. Together we’ll explore Mars, Pluto, Venus, Saturn, and Uranus, not as distant divine figures, but as flawed, emotionally complex characters whose mythic arcs reveal deeply human truths and can inspire new writing of our own.
- What drives Mars’s rage?
- Does Saturnine teaching have to be so self-righteous?
- What does Pluto’s obsession with power and death conceal?
- Is Uranus truly a rebellious creator or just a cosmic architect with no sense of intimacy?
- And why is Venus, seemingly only goddess of love, so often viewed as the most manipulative of them all?
Throughout the term we’ll unpack these gods’ desires, contradictions, wounds, and shadows – touching on their all-too-human underpinnings – as we read from classic myths, engage in poetic interpretation, and analyse these familiar characters as inspiration for our own mythopoetic creations.
In navigating the wonders of the Greco-Roman mythological landscape, and seeing how these civilisations embraced new technology, we’ll engage with new writing technologies of our own, employing aspects of digital media and journaling software, exploring the potentials and pitfalls of AI, and exploring techniques from Found and Erasure Poetry to create innovative new writing of our own.
5 fortnightly sessions over 10 weeks, starting 11 May 2026. No live chats. Suitable for UK & International students.
