A few months ago we invited applications for a collaboration opportunity with Simon Barraclough to commemorate the Battle of the Somme. The ten poets selected have been busy writing poems and will perform them at a special event in London on Saturday 4 February.
This is our contribution to the UK-wide cultural commemorations of the First World War and will feature a rare public screening of ‘The Battle of the Somme’, an iconic documentary originally released in 1916, alongside a performance by Poetry School students of new poetic work inspired by the film, and curated by poet Simon Barraclough.
The screening and performance will take place at The Cinema Museum on Saturday 4th February, 19:00. It is part of the First World War Centenary Partnership, led by our neighbours the Imperial War Musuem.
The performers are Anna Kisby, Caroline M Davies, Chrissy Williams, Eleanor Penny, Jo Young, John Haney, Patricia Ace, Steve Kendall, Sue Burge, and former Birmingham Poet Laureate Roy McFarlane.
Tickets in advance £8.50 (£6.50 concessions). On the door £10 (£7 concessions).
