Do I need an English degree to be a poet?

You do not need a degree in English Literature or intensive regular tuition to start writing poetry. At the very least you need (a) something to write with (b) something to write on (c) a love of poetry, but not much else apart from your unique experience of the world and a basic motivation to write.
