The Lyrical Eye

The Lyrical Eye

Find poetry in everything as we explore the lyric form.

* This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM *

Poetry is a powerful tool to gain clarity and articulate your soul. This workshop aims to equip students with a new way of seeing – to recognise the poetry in the everyday and to use this as a means for accessing, and communicating, your inner-most thoughts, feelings, and complexities.

Lyric poetry refers to a short poem, often with songlike qualities, that expresses the speaker’s personal emotions and feelings. In this workshop, students will produce their own non-narrative poetry in response to a curated soundtrack by the facilitator.

We will also engage with the work of Alysia Nicole Harris and Theressa Lola, as we see how the sensory informs the written and how surrealist abstract thought can be a path to emotional truth. Students will discover a newfound joy for the written word and a recognition that poetry can be found in everything.

1 x 2.5-hour session, running 6.30–9pm (BST), on 8 April 2025. This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM.
