Poetry School Playtime

Poetry School Playtime

Playful prompts, poetry games, pure fun. Join our next monthly play time session!

* This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM *

Cut loose and get creative! In these monthly sessions, join Nick Murray for an hour of playful prompts and poetry games. Aimed at poets of all levels and experience, these sessions are a chance to unwind with some poetic experimentation, with no expectations beyond having fun and making something new. Sessions will draw from all manner of poetic origins, and participants will be invited to try their hand at physical and digital poetry experiments. At the end of the hour you’ll have some new ideas you can take away, and just might discover something new!

After each session, join your fellow poetry players on the CAMPUS group to share what you’ve created and to give each other feedback (and a pat on the back)!

Session 1: Random Poetry Generator
For this first session we will experiment with unexpected text generation and use some of Nick’s favourite poetry tools to make some interactive poems. Starting with some quick and easy exercises, we’ll craft a suite of tiny poems. Then, once we’re in the flow we’ll use some online tools to create a poem that shifts as it’s read! For fans of word games, interactive narrative, Choose Your Own Adventure games.

1 x 1-hour session, running 5–6pm (BST), on 29 May 2025. This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM.

"My confidence about being an able poet grew ever since I started taking Poetry School courses. There were tons of people who were saying this was only a hobby and I managed to break that boundary within myself thanks to Poetry School. Also, I met some very outstanding teachers and terrific fellow poets."
