Poetry School Play: Archaeology

Poetry School Play: Archaeology

Playful prompts, poetry games, pure fun. Join our next monthly play session in prep for this year's National Poetry Day!

* This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM *

Session 3: Archaeology

In preparation for this year’s National Poetry Day on the theme of ‘Play’, cut loose and get creative with Nick Murray with an hour of playful prompts and poetry games. Aimed at poets of all levels and experience, these sessions are a chance to colour outside the poetic lines, with no expectations beyond having fun, experimenting, and trying something new.

Sessions draw from all manner of poetic origins and participants will be invited to try their hand at physical and digital poetry experiments. At the end of the hour you’ll have some new ideas you can take away, and just might discover something new!

In Session 3 we will delve into hidden histories with poetic map-making. We will become a team of archaeologists finding the stories left behind in the ruins. We will chip away at text and reform the rubble into new and unexpected stories. The games played will inspire, and a set of prompts will invite participants to shape that inspiration into the start of some new poems.

After the session, join your fellow poetry players on the CAMPUS group to share what you’ve created and to give each other feedback (and a pat on the back)! Outputs from each session will be available on CAMPUS for all participants to read and respond to.

1 x 1-hour session, running 7–8pm (BST), on 28 July 2025. This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM.

"My confidence about being an able poet grew ever since I started taking Poetry School courses. There were tons of people who were saying this was only a hobby and I managed to break that boundary within myself thanks to Poetry School. Also, I met some very outstanding teachers and terrific fellow poets."
