Interdisciplinary & Translingual Explorations with Astrid Alben

Interdisciplinary & Translingual Explorations with Astrid Alben

An exciting, advanced poetry workshop with the innovative Astrid Alben.

* This course will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM *

This course is for advanced writers of poetry. Over the term there will be set writing tasks and prompts, as well as tutor and group feedback on individual poems. These Advanced workshops will look at how an interdisciplinary poetry practice and translingual expression, including translation, can impact your work-in-progress. Although the vehicular language is primarily English, this online course encourages translocal and translingual connections, and will offer a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary approach to poetry practice.

This course will have a strong focus on developing your own work and is for poets looking to expand their practice and take their writing to the next level, especially those with an interest in international and translingual writing. Through a blend of reading, writing, critical feedback, and a close-knit community of poetry-peers, we’ll help you to produce your best work and bring innovative new poems into the world.

This course is currently in a Priority Booking period, meaning it is only available to students continuing from the previous term. We will open any remaining spaces to new students on Monday 18 November. If you would like to be added to the waiting list for this, please email [email protected].

"This course is important and relevant for poetic practice outside convention and Astrid is wizard at close reading and diagnosis. The opportunity to experiment and to share work in progress that is interdisciplinary is not altogether easy to come across and this was the right balance of playful, challenging and rigorous. I love writing live in sessions and the prompts for this were always generative."
