Free Taster: The Flowers of Rhetoric Applied to Your Poems

Free Taster: The Flowers of Rhetoric Applied to Your Poems

Rhetoric tekkers, for poems that bloom.

* This session will take place on the video-conferencing platform ZOOM *

Join this free taster session for our upcoming Short Course with Soul Patel, where we will look at how “the flowers of rhetoric” can be used to convince, teach, impress, or goad the listener and show how you too can write like Keats or flow like Jay-Z.

In this taster session, Soul will run a writing exercise to explore a couple of the rhetorical devices and apply them to one of your works-in-progress.

Zoom session, running 10.30am to 11.15am (BST), on 4 May 2024.

More information about how our Video Courses work can be found on the Video Courses page. If you have any questions or wish to be added to the waiting list of a sold-out course, please email [email protected].

About Soul View Profile

Soul Patel is a long-standing member of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen (MPK). His poetry explores the Indian diaspora, and the intersection of race, religion, politics, and the migration of peoples, especially his own family’s experience.

His poems have been published in magazines such as Magma and The Rialto and in the MPK anthology. His poems have won prizes in the Magma and Troubadour Poetry Competitions, and were commended in the Ambit Poetry and Magma Pamphlet Competitions. He was also longlisted six times in four years in the National Poetry Competition between 2016-2019, the only person to do so. He was one of 14 shortlisted poets for The Complete Works 3. He has been invited to read his poetry at Cambridge University and at Keats House.

Outside of poetry he is an innovation consultant and entrepreneur speaking on innovation at conferences. He also teaches storytelling and a course on Finding Your Purpose, the latter having been attended by over 500 people to date from 20 different countries. He was formerly a UK debating champion with European Youth Parliament and is now the lead for their alumni organisation.  He practices the Brazilian martial art Capoeira and lives in London.

"This rhetoric workshop is rewarding and transformative. It radically enhanced my poetic toolkit. I still use the material from this course for my own writing and strongly recommend this class."
