Hi, fellow poets and my sympathy with those of you who have had health issues over this itime. I know how hard it is to write when you’re feeling lousy and like Anna I hate feeling sorry for myself. I did make a tremendous afford to write a poem, but the infuriating iPad sent it to oblivion. Even my computer friendly husband couldn’t find it. Ah well, probably wasn’t much of a poem anyway. I still haven’t had any feedback from Samantha for Assignment 3, A Wappentake ago, though I have had very helpful critiques from Geraldine, Elzbieta and Anna. Thankyou all of you, Ithink Iknow

Hello fellow-poets! Starting September 4th, I’m running an online poetry reading called Poetry Lit! I love how poetry events and festivals have managed to broaden a relatively small world (hello, civid-crisis).

With festivals going online I have been able to fan-girl over Danez Smith, which I wouldn’t have been other wise. I’ve shared poems with people from different countries on open mics. I want to add to that joy and therefore I’ve started Poetry Lit! It’s set to feature to guest readers and it has several open mics spots each time. Learn more: Poetry Lit Online Reading Series

Book launch 7th April from 19:45 -21:00 EDT (for night-owls in the UK and normal people in the US etc)!

Sahar Mustafah & George Abraham, in conjunction with the Center for Arabic Culture Somerville, have decided to team up and do a virtual launch party together, celebrating our respective 4/7/2020 releases: THE BEAUTY OF YOUR FACE (Norton) &; Birthright (Button Poetry).

Sahar and George are going to be broadcasting via Facebook Live starting at 8 PM EST on 4/7! We will post the public Facebook Live share here, though it will be public on mine or Sahar’s personal pages, as well as Button Poetry’s page! We plan on reading a bit from our books, then doing a Q&A together afterwards! See below for our book descriptions & bios!

BOOK DESCRIPTIONS:*note: due to the intense nature of George & Sahar’s work, we recommend this event for ages 14+

Birthright is a book that balances the weight of place. The pride and shame and worth of homeland. Palestine, a homeland under siege and under scrutiny from a world that doesn’t occupy its borders. Moving through invented and broken poetic forms, Birthright pulls together all corners of the author’s pride in home, but also a desire to understand the violent cycles of the American machinery of war. Named a top spring release by Library Journal, Birthright has been called “a miraculous debut,” (Craig Santos Perez), and “In a lineage of many broken hearts & heart attacks, here is a heart too brave to mutter or flail.” (Naomi Shihab-Nye).

A uniquely American story told in powerful, evocative prose, The Beauty of Your Face navigates a country growing ever more divided. Afaf Rahman, the daughter of Palestinian immigrants, is the principal of Nurrideen School for Girls, a Muslim school in the Chicago suburbs. One morning, a shooter―radicalized by the online alt-right―attacks the school. Named a Most Anticipated Book of 2020 by Marie Claire, Bustle, Real Simple, and Literary Hub, a Palestinian American woman wrestles with faith, loss, and identity before coming face-to-face with a school shooter in this searing debut.

AUTHOR BIOS: Sahar Mustafah is the daughter of Palestinian immigrants. Her short stories have been awarded the Guild Literary Complex Prize for fiction, a Distinguished Story honor from Best American Short Stories, and three Pushcart Prize nominations, among other honors. She teaches literature and creative writing to high-school students outside of Chicago.
George Abraham is a Palestinian American poet and PhD candidate at Harvard University. They are a Kundiman fellow, and a board member for the Radius of Arab American Writers (RAWI). Their debut poetry collection, Birthright, is forthcoming with Button Poetry in April 2020.

Hi everyone. I’d like to let you know about the Camden and Lumen (London UK) poetry groups organised by poet Ruth O’Callaghan. Ruth has ten collections behind her and organises these events to raise money for cold weather shelters for the homeless. The Camden group is on the first Friday of every month and the Lumen group is on the third Tuesday of every month.

Each event has guest readers, and an opportunity for readers from the floor (that’s you!) to get up and read a poem. Your poem will also be considered for our anthology which is published every year, It would be great to see you at one of our forthcoming events!

I wonder if any of the poets in this group would be interested in a project I am doing. I am in the Central Queensland University Australia I am a PhD students who is running a survey designed to uncover how contemporary poets revise their poetry. I will then be amending a book of my own poetry using the results of this survey and hopefully also conduct an interview, with those poets who wish to have one, by Skype or WhatsApp. The discussion is designed to give poets who want to to take part, more opportunity to express their thoughts on the subject.

I am sure you are busy, as all professionals undoubtedly, This is my website in which there is a link to the survey.

‘https://www.imageryjustine.com The site is more poet friendly than the beginning of the survey, which is why I am sending it to you. If you have the 11 minutes (approx) to fill in the form and up to 20 minutes total to take part in a discussion, I would be grateful.

If you were able to recommend any other poets as well this would be helpful.

Thank you for your time.
