“The Napkin Poetry Review” is an online journal now accepting submissions for its inaugural issue. Across history, the most skilled poets could encapsulate a life-story on the back of a cocktail napkin and we want to bring creation stories––sparks of brilliance––to life. Combining poetry with photography, we are collaborating with art directors and photographers who have worked for magazines such as Vanity Fair, W Magazine, and Vogue to explore storytelling and the creative process. Alongside poetry, the review will include a behind-the-scenes profile of each poet. We also seek to demonstrate how poetry fits into our daily lives and will include regular research articles highlighting the physical, social, and mental benefits of poetry, inviting professors and researchers to comment.

For submissions, please send up to five 2-4 stanza poems in one PDF along with a cover letter and bio (<150 words) to: napkinpoetryreview@gmail.com

I am looking for published poets to take part in a survey I am doing for a PhD in Australia. I am looking at the way that poets revise their poetry to get it ready to submit. The University is Central Queensland University. This is the link to my survey( Survey Monkey Naturally) if you want to take part in finding out what poets do now, rather than what they were told to do by luminaries such as Pound or Capote who, as I am sure you know, wrote beautifully and reworked In Cold Blood 5000 times after it was accepted for publication! this is the survey for you. It will take 11 minutes of your time and help me, and hopefully other poets as well greatly when the results are published, will let you have a link to the thesis when it is completed.if you want to talk to me about it my email is imageryjustine@gmail.com. contact me and I will ring you. The website address is. https://www.imageryjustine.com

The website has a link to the survey form. It is anonymous unless you chose to be named by the way.

thank you so much.

Hello everyone! I am new to this site and poetry in general, I started because of school and am still a little rusty in it.

I would really appreciate all suggestions on how to improve my poem and how it is in general. Please do not hesitate to point out any mistake and critique my work, if it will help me. Thank you.

Here is one of my poems.

Lunchtime Escape

I hear loud cursing over the chatty bustling,
Of uniformed students in the outdoor canteen.
Sunlight reflects on the curious eyes that turn to our table.
Situated near the plants, disturbing our little bubble.

5 I flinch at the attention but my friend is busy;
Celebrating her new position as Student-body President.
The ugly green monster, in me, invades the moment.
Churning up unwanted feelings and leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
Caging me in, and suffocating me with reminders of my loss.
10 Oh no! The monsters are teaming up.

Projections, of when I performed in front of a live audience, play in my mind;
My fingers plucking at the guitar strings with ease,
my voice loud and melodic.
The crowd cheers, that once ignited an addictive euphoria in my veins,
But now choke me from the inside out, blocking my air supply.

15 I blink to clear my mind. Sweaty palms chipping the wooden table.
I listen to my friend’s cheers, over the loud thumping of my heart,
To regain my bearings, before all the monsters meet up.
I need to run!

I run to my safe haven; my room.
My fingers pluck at the metallic strings of the mahogany guitar,
20 My voice perfectly synchronised with the chords to sing, The Strumbellas’s “Spirits”.
I sing with all my heart, in the confines of my dark room.
And with each line, I feel my breathing normalise, and the monsters disappear.

Hope you’re rattling along nicely.

I’d like to invite you to contribute to a print zine I’ve recently launched. It’s called Ghostland and collects poetry, prose and non-fiction centred on city limits, edgelands, hauntings and other uncanniness. Our first issue is in print and we’re looking a little prose-heavy at the moment.
I’d welcome your submissions. The loose theme is ‘concrete and stone’.

I would gladly welcome your contributions. We can be reached at ghostlandzine@outlook.com and on twitter @ghostlandzine
Very much hope to hear from you all. Thanks!
