Write poems straight from the heart
Jeanette Winterson says in her novel The Passion, ‘Do it from the heart or not at all.’ So, too is the case with writing poetry. This is a course not only for lovers, or romantics, but also for those who are willing to take a journey into the heart. If you write from a place of love, if you are operating from a place of love, then love resides in your words, and in your poems. Love is obsessive, of course it is, for love is at the core of being human. Who doesn’t want to be loved, to love another, or to be in love? In this course, we will read love poems that have love at their center, love poems that have love at their periphery and love poems that are simply about the heart and its wanting. In this 21st century, the only thing stronger than anger and rage is love. We will read poems by both contemporary poets and poets of the past that explore all types of love whether they be romantic love, platonic love or love for a place or idea. Love is at the center of everything. Sample poets we will read include Marie Howe, Victoria Redel, Elizabeth Bishop, Anne Sexton, Dorianne Laux, Maggie Smith, and more.
Studios are 3-4 week intensive courses. Reading material will be distributed before the course begins. There are no live chats so they are suitable for both UK & International students.
