Reconnect with, and celebrate, the world around you through poetry.
The concept and practice of pouring libations is a process of remembering, re-connecting, and re-affirming the bond we have with the world around us. This past year has forced many of us into spaces of listening to ourselves and to those close to us more than ever before.
We create a space for listening when we read and hear poems; they have the ability to hold us still in a moment and deeply consider what just happened. This is also true for how our relationship with the universe can be.
On this studio course there will be an opportunity to deliberately engage with the outdoors, meditative listening to soundscape, music, and nature to stimulate ideas for first drafts. We will look at poems that use rhythm, speech, and sound to explore the world around and within us, before creating new work that deepens and celebrates our connections to this world.
Poets will include Sonia Sanchez, Gcina Mhlophe, Youssef Komunyakaa, Thylias Moss, Major Jackson, and more. Participants will be given weekly prompts created to allow creativity through guided flow as opposed to strict constraint. Although participants will be free to explore themes of their choice, the course will provide structure for this exploration.
Studios are 4 week intensive courses. Reading material will be distributed before the course begins. There are no live chats so they are suitable for both UK & International students.
