Advanced Poetry Workshop with Astrid Alben [Spring 2024]
An exciting new advanced workshop group with the innovative Astrid Alben.
This course is for advanced writers of poetry. Each week we will focus on developing your work-in-progress, including individual poems and poems-in-sequence, through reading, discussion, feedback, re-drafting, and discussion of poetics and direction. Over the term there will be set writing tasks, plus occasional focuses on a particular poet or artist/sculptor/composer to help engender fresh thinking, provoke discussion and expand your poetic practice.
10 weekly sessions on Tuesdays, 6.45–8.45pm (GMT), starts 23 January 2024. Sessions for this course will take place at Somerset House, Strand, London, WC2R 1LA, except for the first 2 classes (23 & 30 January), which will take place on Zoom.

Astrid Alben has published three collections of poetry, Ai! Ai! Pianissimo (Arc, 2011), Plainspeak (Prototype, 2019), and Little Dead Rabbit (Prototype, 2022), which was also published in Dutch by PoëzieCentrum. Her translation of Anne Vegter’s Island glacier mountain won an English PEN Translates Award in 2022 and her Collected Poems of F. van Dixhoorn is forthcoming from Broken Sleep Books in March 2024.
