This advanced course will primarily focus on reading and developing your current work-in-progress through readings and discussion, feedback, re-drafting, looking at individual poems and poems-in-sequence, discussion of ‘motives’ and direction. Occasionally, at the right moment, this will be augmented by a writing task, a guest-poet or editor, a focus on a particular practitioner/poet/book, or a tangential-but relevant session in order to engender fresh thinking.
10 weekly sessions on Mondays 14:00 – 16:00, starts 18th September. This is the first term of a three-term course. Priority booking for terms two and three will be given to term one students.

Matthew Caley’s Thirst [Slow Dancer, 1999] was nominated for The Forward Prize for Best First Collection; that was followed by The Scene Of My Former Triumph [Wrecking Ball 2005]; Apparently [Bloodaxe, 2010] and his ‘lost second collection’ Professor Glass [Donut, 2011]. His work has been included in many anthologies including John Stammer’s Picador Book of Love Poems; Poems of The Decade and Roddy Lumsdens’ Identity Parade: New British & Irish Poets. He’s read at many venues/festivals both here and abroad including The National Portrait Gallery; The Globe Theatre, King’s Place, The Novi Sad International Poetry Festival, Alchemy in Prague, Stanza and Aldeburgh Festivals. His work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and several other wavelengths. He was also co-editor of Pop Fiction: The Song In Cinema. [Intellect, 2005]. His fifth collection Rake was published from Bloodaxe in early 2016.
